About Myopia in Children
In recent years, the number of children with myopia has been increasing, and many begin to experience reduced vision even in elementary school.
If myopia continues to progress, it can lead to high myopia, which increases the risk of eye diseases such as retinal detachment and glaucoma.
At our clinic, we provide low-dose atropine therapy (Rejucea Mini Eye Drops) as a treatment to help slow down myopia progression.
This therapy involves instilling one drop before bedtime each night, which may help reduce the rate of progression.
Studies overseas have reported positive results, and the treatment is considered to be safe and well-tolerated.
Rejucea Mini is the first low-dose atropine formulation approved by Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.
It comes in single-use containers without preservatives, allowing for hygienic and safe use.
Recommended for
- Children (age 6 and above) whose myopia tends to progress quickly
- Children with a family history of strong myopia
- Those whose glasses or contact lens prescriptions change frequently

Tests and Fees for Myopia Control Treatment
Tests and Fees
Tests
- Visual acuity test
- Refraction test
- Axial length measurement

Refraction Test
This test measures how well the eyes focus light to determine the degree of nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism.
It helps detect vision problems early and supports healthy visual development.
Axial Length Measurement
This test measures the length of the eye—from the cornea (front surface) to the retina (back of the eye).
As a child grows, the eye also elongates, and excessive elongation can lead to myopia progression.

Important Notes
his treatment is not covered by health insurance.
(At the first visit, an insurance-based eye examination is performed to determine whether treatment is appropriate.)
Eye drops cannot be prescribed alone without examination.
Those who prefer an insurance-based consultation will need to schedule it on a separate day.
Treatment effects may vary from person to person.
This therapy does not completely stop myopia progression in all cases.
Pros and Cons
Benefits
- Myopia tends to progress as the eyeball elongates during growth.
Low-dose atropine therapy helps slow this elongation, thereby slowing myopia progression. - Slowing the progression of myopia may help reduce the risk of developing high myopia in the future.
- As a non-surgical and easy-to-continue therapy, it places less physical and psychological burden compared to surgical options.
Limitations
- Some patients may experience temporary light sensitivity or slight blurriness when focusing on near objects.
Since the drops are applied before bedtime, these symptoms rarely affect daily life. - If treatment is discontinued, myopia progression may resume.
Tips to Support Myopia Control at Home
Along with using the prescribed eye drops, certain lifestyle habits can help slow the progression of myopia.
There are many ways families can support healthy vision in daily life.
Please combine the use of Rejucea Mini Eye Drops with good eye care habits at home.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask our staff.
Spend Time Outdoors to Protect Your Child’s Eyesight
Spending about two hours a day outdoors and getting natural sunlight has been shown to help slow myopia progression.
Whenever possible, encourage your child to play outside, especially on sunny days.
Regular eyeglasses, contact lenses, and window glass block some of the beneficial light, so natural outdoor exposure is important.

Take Breaks and Keep a Safe Distance from Screens
Keep a distance of at least 30 cm (about 12 inches) when reading books or using digital devices.
Try to limit continuous screen time to within 30 minutes, with 5–10 minute breaks in between.
Today, children spend more time on screens and studying, which may accelerate myopia.
Simple daily habits can make a big difference in protecting their eyesight.

Maintain Good Posture and Proper Lighting
Avoid reading or playing games in the dark, or using devices while lying down.
Make sure your child’s desk and chair are adjusted to a comfortable height to keep a natural distance from the screen.
A bright and comfortable study space supports eye health.

Check Glasses or Contact Lens Prescriptions Regularly
Wearing glasses or contacts with the wrong prescription can strain the eyes and contribute to faster myopia progression.
Regular eye checkups ensure that your child is using lenses with the correct power.
