Myopia Progression Control TherapyRejusea Mini Ophthalmic Solution 0.025%.Notice of Commencement

We have started offering Santen Pharmaceutical Rejucea Mini Eye Drops 0.025% as an elective treatment option to slow the progression of myopia in children.

About Myopia in Children

In recent years, myopia in children has been on the rise, with many children complaining of vision loss as early as elementary school.
It is known that myopia, as it progresses, may lead to strong myopia in the future and also increases the risk of eye diseases such as retinal detachment and glaucoma.

At our clinic, we have introduced myopia control therapy using low-concentration atropine therapy (Rejusea Mini Eye Drops) as a new option to control the progression of myopia in children.
This is a treatment that is expected to slow the progression of myopia by applying one drop of the drops every day before bed.
Its effectiveness has been reported in overseas studies, and it is attracting attention as a safe treatment with few side effects.
Rejucea Mini Eye Drops are the first eye drops approved by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare in Japan, and are safe to use as they are single-use and contain no preservatives.

Recommended for this type of person

  • Children who want to reduce the progression of myopia (recommended for ages 6 and up)
  • Children with a family history of progressive myopia
  • Those who progress in the power of their glasses or contacts in a short period of time.

Treatment at our clinic

The main ingredient is a low-concentration atropine ophthalmic solution, which is dropped once every night.
One month after the start of the eye drops, the patient will be examined to see if there are any side effects.
Thereafter, patients will be asked to visit the clinic every three months for an examination.

Test Items and Costs

Checklist

  • Vision screening
  • Refraction
  • Eye axis length measurement, etc.

RefractionThis test examines the power (refractive power) required for the eyes to come into focus, and is useful for early detection of eye diseases and for detecting refractive errors that may interfere with the development of vision.

Eye axis length measurementThis test measures the length from the surface of the eye (cornea) to the back of the eye (retina) (ocular axis length). In the same way that the height of the eye increases during the process of growth, the ocular axis also increases, which leads to progression of myopia.

Precautions

This is an unrestricted treatment and is not covered by insurance.
(At the initial consultation, the patient will be examined by insurance and examined for myopia and indications for treatment.)

We do not accept prescriptions for eye drops only.

Those who wish to receive insurance treatment must see the doctor on a different day.

The effectiveness of this treatment varies from person to person and does not completely stop the progression of myopia in all individuals.

Advantages and disadvantages of treatment

Benefits of treatment

  • Myopia progresses due to the elongation of the ocular axis (the length of the eyeball from front to back) during growth.
Myopia progression can be slowed down by treatment that suppresses the elongation of the ocular axis.
  • By slowing the progression of myopia through treatment, the risk of developing high myopia in the future can be reduced.
  • Surgeries such as LASIK involve incisions, which tend to increase the physical and psychological burden, but myopia progression control treatment does not involve surgery, so there is less of a burden on the patient.

Disadvantages of treatment

  • Myopia progresses due to the elongation of the ocular axis (the length of the eyeball from front to back) during growth.
Myopia progression can be slowed down by treatment that suppresses the elongation of the ocular axis.
  • By slowing the progression of myopia through treatment, the risk of developing high myopia in the future can be reduced.
  • Side effects may include glare and slightly blurred vision up close.
These symptoms rarely affect daily life because the drops are applied before bedtime.

What to do in conjunction with treatment

In addition to treatment with eye drops, the progression of myopia can be more effectively controlled by paying attention to the following points in daily life.
There are many things you can do at home to protect your child's precious vision.
Please support them in their daily lives along with Rejusea Mini Eye Drops.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.

Get some sunshine and prevent the progression of myopia!

It has been shown that spending about two hours a day outside and being exposed to the sun's rays can help reduce the progression of myopia.
On sunny days, make time to play outside as much as possible.
Glasses, contact lenses, and window glass do not allow ultraviolet rays, which reduce the progression of myopia, to pass through, so direct exposure to light in nature is very important.

When looking at a book or screen, “distance and rest” are important

Books and digital screens should be viewed at least 30 cm away from the eyes.
It is effective to take a break of 5 to 10 minutes in the middle of a session.
These days, even small children can easily develop nearsightedness by looking at screens and studying for long periods of time. Protect your precious eyes by making small efforts every day.

Protect your eyes with the right posture and a bright environment.

Avoid reading, playing games, or using screens while lying down in a dark room as much as possible.
It is important to adjust the height of the desk and chair to suit your child's needs and try to maintain a natural distance between the eyes and the screen.
Small daily efforts will help protect eye health.

Review your eyeglasses and contacts to protect your eye health

Regular eyeglasses or contact lenses may increase the likelihood of myopia progression.
If you would like to know more about the progression of myopia, please feel free to contact our staff.
